Collaborating with Bruce Asbestos on Dash at the Tate

dash the snail inflatable

We’re proud to have collaborated with the brilliant artist Bruce Asbestos on the creation of Dash, a giant inflatable sculpture now featured in UNIQLO Tate Play: Bruce Asbestos, S/S 2025 at Tate Modern. This joyful, bold work is the result of a playful partnership between Bruce and UNIQLO, brought to life through our team’s active participation in design, production, and event execution.

Inspired by Henri Matisse’s iconic collage L’Escargot (The Snail), Dash transforms the artist’s colourful, cut-paper composition into a monumental 10-metre inflatable sculpture made from durable nylon. The piece brings a sense of lightness and energy to the Turbine Hall, encouraging interaction and discovery through vibrant form and scale.

From Sketch to Sculpture: Bringing Dash to Life

We worked closely with Bruce to transform his creative vision into a fully realised inflatable artwork. Starting from his original sketches and colour palette, we developed a buildable form that balanced artistic intent with the practical needs of large-scale installation.

Dash was made from nylon and carefully fabricated to capture Bruce’s playful aesthetic and the bold visual spirit of Matisse. Every detail—from shape to colour—was considered to ensure the piece felt both dynamic and inviting within the Tate’s iconic Turbine Hall.

Our team managed the full production and installation process, making sure Dash was safe, eye-catching, and ready to engage visitors of all ages.

Why Inflatables Make Great Art

At Megaflatables, we believe inflatable structures are a powerful and often underused medium in contemporary art. Their scale and softness create an instant sense of wonder—bold enough to capture attention, yet approachable and engaging for audiences of all ages. Inflatables are not only visually striking, but also incredibly adaptable, making them ideal for transforming public spaces in meaningful and playful ways.

Creating inflatable artworks like Dash allows us to blend technical skill with artistic expression. These inflatable art structures  offer artists the freedom to think big—literally—without the constraints of heavy or permanent materials. Our team specialises in translating creative visions into lightweight, durable forms that retain their artistic integrity, while being safe and practical for exhibition in galleries, festivals, and public installations.

We’re proud to be part of projects that make art more accessible, more engaging, and more fun. A big thank you to Bruce, UNIQLO, and the Tate for their creative vision and collaboration. If you’re ready to bring your own artistic dreams to life, contact us at Megaflatables today.
