Ireland’s record try-scorer Brian O’Driscoll has played his final home game at the Aviva Stadium and Lansdowne RC had a little surprise in store for the well-loved captain.
The 35-year-old marked his world-record 140th Test cap by adroitly setting up tries for Johnny Sexton and Andrew Trimble, teeing Ireland up for a Six Nations title-decider against France next weekend.
O’Driscoll stole the show on his grand Dublin farewell, Cian Healy, Sexton, Sean Cronin, Fergus McFadden and Jack McGrath scoring further tries in Ireland’s convincing victory.
There was a fantastic atmosphere at the Aviva Stadium as BOD smiled as his face was put up time after time on the big screen, he lapped the Aviva at the end, circling a giant balloon-lifted poster of himself. It was way over the top and all the more brilliant.
As well as a giant balloon sporting BOD’s familiar grin, there was another inflatable at the Aviva as Megaflatables were asked to create a giant inflatable rugby player, in full Lansdowne kit thanking O’Driscoll for being a fantastic player and role model for the team.
Kevin Pegrum Operations Director of Megaflatables said, “It was great to see the finished product in the stadium on Saturday, the fans loved it and so did the man himself, so I hear.”
Lansdowne Rugby Club chose to use the Megaflatable to ensure that BOD went out with a bang and he certainly did that!
