Helping Huddersfield Have a Kraken Halloween

As with most occasions in 2020, Halloween looked very different this year. Without the usual festivities of dressing up, trick or treating and spooky parties, it was difficult for many to enjoy the day as they usually would.

It will come as no surprise though that we love Halloween at Megaflatables, and we couldn’t let it pass unmarked. So, when we were approached by a client who wanted to install giant inflatable tentacles in the skyline of Huddersfield, we couldn’t wait to get stuck in!

Not Squidding Around

With the aim of bringing the Halloween spirit to the people of Huddersfield and promoting local businesses in a COVID-safe manner, our client tasked us with providing an eye-catching and awe-inspiring instalment to top Huddersfield Market Place for the week leading up to Halloween.

The seven-day takeover of a shopping centre in the large metropolitan town was accompanied with a free competition, where locals were invited to share selfies with the escaped sea creature on social media to win shopping vouchers to use in the town centre.

Locals were also asked to suggest names for the creature, with winners calling it Greenymeany, Timmy Tentactles, and Captain Slimey! Some more of our personal favourites were:

  • Gerald the Kraken
  • Scuba-Doo
  • Squidly

What would you have named the creature?

An Inkredible Instalment

Coming up with something to surprise and delight passers-by of all ages was a mega task – and Megaflatables was more than up for the challenge.

Made to appear as if a humongous green sea creature was stretching its tentacles from the roof and windows of a popular shopping centre in the heart of Huddersfield, the instalment brought joy to local shoppers all throughout the day.

The attraction stole the show in the evening, too, with LED lighting installed to add further wow factor and emit an eerie glow after sundown.

The installation went down swimmingly with locals, and it captured the imaginations of children and adults alike, all of whom were drawn in by the exciting and spooky new addition to their everyday surroundings.

As well as delighting the residents of Huddersfield and bringing some much-needed festive spirit to the town, our giant inflatable tentacles helped local businesses during a difficult time.

The client commented, “This pop up attraction has without doubt increased footfall and encouraged local spend in a COVID safe manner.”
